Can I connect the water heater to the vehicle’s 12v auxiliary power output (lighter socket)?

No, the water heater draws 30A of current and would damage your vehicle’s 12v socket and wiring. The water heater would need to be wired to a battery using the correct wire, terminated with the supplied power connector and pins.

Is the water heater easy to fit?

Yes the water heater is easy to fit. You have to run your connection wires from your battery/power source to your water heater. Make sure you place an automotive fuse inline with the +ve supply wire that is fused at 50A fuse for 30A water heaters, and 80A fuse for 60A water heaters. Transvend sell wiring kits at pre-determined lengths to help you fit your water heater, and these include an inline automotive midi fuse and midi fuse holder.

Is the water heater safe to use in my vehicle?

The water heater needs to be securely fitted. Depending on the model the water heater should be fitted securely to a vertical or horizontal surface. Make sure that it is fitted in a safe place where it will not be a hazard to the user, see the operators guide for further information.

Where can I fit the water heater in my vehicle (location)?

When fitting your water heater you must make sure: –

You don’t obstruct an emergency exit
You don’t fit the water heater where it could be operated accidently
Always remember ‘Health and safety’ is of paramount importance.

Distance from battery? Wiring lengths?

The water heater can be fitted up to 8m from the battery. You should use appropriate cable depending on the current draw of the water heater. Minimum I0mm² cable for 60A water heaters & 6mm² cable for 30A water heaters.

Do I need to be an electrician to fit the water heater?

You should always seek professional advice if you are not qualified or competent at installing automotive electrical equipment. Be aware that if you’re fitting the water heater to the vehicle’s main battery (if your vehicle has no auxiliary/leisure batteries) then you should specify that either ‘Voltage Sensing’ or ‘Alternator Sensing’ are activated to protect your vehicle’s battery from running flat.

Alternator loadings?

Always check to see whether your vehicle’s alternator is able to cope with the 30A or 60A current the water heater draws.

Will it interfere with my vehicle’s existing equipment?

Transvend’s 12vdc and 24vdc water heaters have an E11 mark. The E11 mark states that our products have approved electromagnetic compatibility and can be fitted into vehicles.

Do I need to service my water heater?

Depending on the water quality in your area you might need to de-scale your water heater from time to time. We recommend that you fill your water heater with bottled water.

I would like voltage sensing activated on my water heater, but I want to choose the activation voltage?

During the manufacturing process we can change the activation voltage to a user defined voltage if required.

I don’t know if I need to activate ‘Voltage Sensing- VS’ or ‘Alternator Sensing- AS’?

If ‘Voltage Sensing, VS’ or ‘Alternator Sensing, AS’ features have been requested they need to be activated by Transvend before your water heater is shipped. Please contact Transvend if you are unsure if you need to activate any of these features.

You can’t activate both ‘VS’ and ‘AS’, only one can be activated.

If you are connecting the water heater to the vehicle’s main battery/SLI battery (Starting, Lights, Ignition battery) then we would recommend you activate ‘AS’. This means the water heater will only work when the engine is running and it’s got an input voltage above 13.2vdc. If the water heater has an input voltage below 13.2vdc then the water heater will go into a hibernation mode, not heating or draining the battery and only begin heating again when the engine is started and the supply voltage increases above 13.2vdc. ‘AS’ will protect your vehicles main battery making sure the water heater doesn’t drain it flat, allowing you to always start your engine.

If you are connecting the water heater to auxiliary/leisure batteries (deep cycle battery) in the vehicle then activating ‘VS’ means the water heater will work above 12.5vdc, protecting the leisure batteries from draining flat. If the supply voltage drops below 12.5vdc then the water heater will go in to a hibernation mode, waiting for the supply voltage to increase above 12.5vdc.

When the water heater has either ‘VS’ or ‘AS’ activated and it’s in a hibernation mode the green power LED and orange battery LED will both flash.

What warranty do I have?

12 month return to base warranty.

Delivery?

Delivery will be via an international courier. Depending on quantity we aim to dispatch your goods within 48hrs. Although at your time of order we will inform you of an estimated delivery date.

Colours?

Can I have a colour other than white or red? Of course, other colours are available on request. This is a chargeable extra and water heaters would be individually powder coated to your requirements.

Accessories?

Accessories can be purchased separately. These include wiring kits, locking pullout cradles and carry handle kits.

Can I turn on extra features when I’ve received my water heater?

We factory set the water heaters features at the time of build. If you would like to activate or disable a feature please call us.

How hot will the water get?

The water in the heater will reach approximately 93 Deg C

Can I fit the water heater externally on my vehicle?

The water heater is designed to fit internally in a vehicle, it contains electronic hardware and should not get wet.

Can I leave the water in my water heater?

Transvend recommend that the water heater is drained down daily. This also stops the risk of water freezing overnight, do not let the water freeze as this may damage the tank.

Is there a risk from aquatic bacteria?

It is the user’s responsibility to ensure clean, safe, bottled drinking water is used to fill the water heater. Once fully drained, no water should be left in the water heater, no pooling can occur (providing the water heater is level). The time required to heat the water from 60°C to 93°C ensures self-disinfection from aquatic bacteria e.g legionella.
